Eco-Responsibility & Sustainable Development

As preservation of the environment is everybody’s concern, since 2010 Vinci committed itself to obtaining a dual certification : the France Congrès Quality and Sustainable Development Charter and ISO 14001.

Vinci received the “France Congrès “ certification in June 2011 and aims to obtain the ISO 14001 by the end of the year 2011.

More than a trend...a commitment :

Implementation of a Building Management System (BMS) when the building was opened in 1993 enables close monitoring of our energy consumption with regard to heating, lighting and air-conditioning.

Responsible building management, as part of a continuous process of improvement, is practised at the Vinci International Congress Centre.

Responsible management

  • Air-conditioning
”Open water-dispersion cooling towers”, which use up a great deal of water, have been replaced by “closed dry-cooler towers” ; which are not water-consuming and prevent risk of legionnaires’ disease.
  • Heating
Hot air discharged by air-conditioning units is now used to supply a heat pump.
  • Electricity
Monitoring mechanisms have been installed that cut power when consumption peaks.
  • Water
Taps and cisterns have been equipped with pressure and flow reducers.
  • Maintenance
Full-time maintenance staff are authorised to implement innovative techniques on their own initiative.

Impact on the environment

  • Personnel
Personnel are trained and retrained on a regular basis in the fields of technology and security.
In the near future, personnel will be receiving training in eco-responsible event management.
  • Sustainable local products
The Vinci Congress Centre has chosen to use sustainable local products and to prioritise ties with service providers who stand by it in its commitment to this environmental approach.
  • Paper
All departments have been using PEFC-certified paper (from sustainably managed forests) for several years now.
  • Monitored waste management
Receptacles for sorting waste at source have been installed throughout the building, followed by selective collection and removal to a sorting centre for appropriate reprocessing.

A favourable “environment”

Vinci enjoys a highly favourable “environment”, with the City of Tours’ drafting of an overall action plan for encouragement of Sustainable Development and the Climate Plan implemented by the Tour(s)+ Agglomeration Community.

Alternative modes of transport

  • Bicycles : Tours has 140 km of cycle paths and a long-duration bicycle hire system (velociti).
  • Public transport : to get from A to B without stress or fatigue and with lower pollution... a network of over 400 km of bus lines with Fil Bleu.
  • Tramway : The first line of the Tours tramway will come into service in the second half of 2013.
  • Car-sharing : this free service puts you in touch with partners, to travel together in groups at lower cost.
